La Salle Dominates Salesian in CHSAA B Division Matchup

By David Cordova

The CHSAA has a lot of great teams in its league. One of those teams, La Salle Academy of Manhattan is in the “B” division and has been making statements since the start of the season. The Cardinals have been dominating this season and in the recent New York State Sportswriters Association rankings, they are ranked No. 2 amongst all city teams in the “B” division.

Some of La Salle’s biggest wins have been against teams in the “AA” and “A” divisions such as Cardinal Spellman, Nazareth and St. Francis Prep. The reason for their 13-2 record prior to yesterday’s matchup going into yesterday’s game against Salesian was proven from the first minute of the game.

La Salle 82, Salesian 48

In the beginning of the game, La Salle showed plenty of aggressiveness on the boards and plenty of offense from Reggie Outlaw & James Bouknight as they ran off to an 11-4 lead.

Towards the end of the first quarter and into the second, Salesian came back, taking a 17-15 lead with 7:12 to go in the second quarter.

Then the Cardinals turned it up on the offensive end & retook their lead & built it up to eleven, 34-23, with 2:06 left in the second quarter. Their energy helped them get to a seventeen-point lead, 42-25, at the half.

The pace was picked up even more in the second half as La Salle raised their lead to 51-27, with 4:42 to go in the third quarter. Salesian could not hit shots and LaSalle countered with layups and steals. The lead would never be relinquished as the Cardinals would win this one in a rout over the Eagles.

Bouknight led the Cardinals with 22 points and Outlaw added 13 points. For the Eagles, Brendan Cama led with 13 points.
