Championship Day. The day when the final two teams battle to be the last man standing. It is that one last battle to determine who is the top dog, the alpha male, who is the elite.
That question would be answered in the battle between Overseas Elite, the reigning champions, & Team Colorado in the championship game of The Basketball Tournament. Who would be the team to win the trophy & the $2 million?
Early on, Team Colorado was in attack mode as they ran out to a 9-2 lead with 15:43 to go in the first half. Behind the offense of Austin Dufault and offensive dynamo Marcus Hall, Colorado even extended their lead to eighteen points, 33-15, with 7:39 left to go. But then Overseas Elite went on a run to cut their deficit in half, as they trailed by ten, 46-36 at halftime.
In the second half, Overseas Elite took control behind the scoring of Jhondre Jefferson as they captured the lead at 51-49 with 12:01 left in the game. The half continued as a see-saw battle for both teams, as the game continued to be close throughout. Although Hall ended up answering at every turn for Team Colorado, the clutch shooting of Kyle Fogg and baskets by DJ Kennedy helped sustain the lead for Overseas Elite, which would not be relinquished as they held the lead in the final seconds and would win by five, 77-72, winning the title for the second year in a row and winning the grand prize of $2 million, making it 2 TBT titles and $3 million in the last two years, an amazing accomplishment in the three year history of the tournament.
Kennedy led Overseas Elite with 18 points and 8 rebounds and Fogg added 17 points and 6 rebounds. For Team Colorado, Hall led all scorers with 24 points and Dufault added 16 points and 6 rebounds.
