In the state of Florida, the most beloved sport is football. However, basketball isn’t too far behind. One of the most successful programs in the state in the past few years has been Each 1 Teach 1 United.
Each 1 Teach 1, which is sponsored by NBA All-Star Amare Stoudamire & is a powerhouse on the Nike EYBL circuit, has produced countless Division I players over the last six years & has produced five players that have gone on to the NBA, including Austin Rivers (Los Angeles Clippers), D’Angelo Russell (Los Angeles Lakers) & the recent No. 1 draft pick in this year’s draft, Ben Simmons (Philadelphia 76ers).
Now, there is another rising star within the program, one who is progressing at a fast rate & has the chance to be a star in the future. His name is Kevin Knox.
The 6-8, 195-pound junior is one of the most promising gems in the class of 2017, in which he is ranked No. 6 in the country by 24/7 Sports. He is a player that has a tremendous skill set and is one that has plenty of guard skills despite his large frame. But his hard work comes from his humble upbringing. “Just growing up, my dad worked with me. He played the sport, so he knows what it takes. He works with me everyday on my work ethic. I like to work on my game every day. My work ethic has been proven out here on the court.”
Knox first rose to prominence as a sophomore at Tampa Catholic High School as he averaged 24.4 points and 10 rebounds per game. In his junior year, he put on an even better performance with 30.1 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game, while leading his school to the state semifinals. Because of his tremendous play during the season, he earned accolades such as Florida Class 4A Player of the Year, the Tampa Tribune All-Hillsborough County Player of the Year and the Max Preps National Junior of the Year.
When asked about playing basketball in the state of Florida, “The state of Florida is one of the best basketball states in the whole country, everyone knows that. There’s a whole lot of talent and players that are ranked and the competition there is really good.”
On being ranked in the top-ten in his class (2017): “A lot of people are coming at me. I’m a huge target, everybody behind me wants to come after my head, so I’ve got to come out and compete and get better.”
During the four sessions of the Nike EYBL, Knox has put up great performances, averaging 19.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for Each 1 Teach 1 in 15 games. “It’s the best circuit and shoe brand. All of the top talent plays here, so I really like it,” Knox says about competing in the EYBL.
In this day and age, many players are fortunate to have filmographers surrounding them, Knox has had two entities follow him around recently. The two entities in question are Home Team Hoops and The Patient Chase. When asked about his documentary with The Patient Chase, Knox replied, “It was really good, he does a good job with his work. I like him and we plan to do some more workout videos.”
At the present time of this writing, Knox is currently playing for the USA Basketball U17 team in Spain against many other countries. Last year, Knox won a gold medal with the U16 USA Basketball team, and plans to do so again this month.
Also on the table is an invite at the Nike Basketball Academy in late July in Los Angeles, California and a date at the Nike Peach Jam with Each 1 Teach 1 United against twenty-three other programs, and all for one goal: to win the title and be named the best program in the most prestigious league in the country. When asked about his summer goals,” he said, “I’m trying to finish out my AAU career strong. I’ll be at Peach Jam and in Vegas. I just wanna finish out strong.”
On his college recruitment: “A lot of schools are texting me right now. Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Florida State are looking at me. I’m getting texts from head coaches and phone calls, so it’s great that they’ve been staying in touch. I’m going to sit down with my parents, take some visits and cut down my list in the fall and then take it from there.”
As the 16-year-old Knox closes out his final AAU season, there is no doubt that he will be a prize for whatever school lands him. He has earned many accolades and will continue to earn more. The sky is the limit for the youngster from Tampa, Florida.
